Escape from the city and immerse yourself in the heart of the Southern Highlands at Bundanoon Lakehouse. A European-inspired provincial farmhouse, large enough for 2 families, sits on an elevated position of 20 acres of rich highland soil where the trees and gardens have matured to offer natural beauty, protection and total privacy for this wonderful retreat. A key feature of this property is the stunning private lake which our home shares with 2 adjoining properties and takes its name from.
The space
Entering through rustic gates and driving down the gently curving clay driveway leads you to the Lakehouse' substantial accommodation. Inspired by traditional European architecture, the farmhouse has 2 distinct wings with high roof pitches connected by a stunning glassed walkway which acts as the main dining hall. With 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, multiple living/ seating areas, a rumpus room and wrap around verandah the house is perfect for 2 families to share. A second TV in the rumpus room adjoining the garage with table tennis and foosball tables ensures that the parents can enjoy the main lounge and dining wing of the house and the kids have their own area.
Abundant in its proportion, Bundanoon Lakehouse has many spaces to relax in or entertain. From the sun drenched front courtyard, the substantial dining pavilion with 12 seat banquet table , or the verandah with Adirondack lounges and BBQ, an outdoor area with pizza oven overlooking the picturesque lake and sloping lawns, inside and out Bundanoon Lakehouse is an family get together entertaining dream or relaxers haven.
The house is of full brick construction to keep you cool in summer and with its fireplaces and electric heaters in each bedroom will help insulate you in winter. There will be enough wood supplied to have fires during your winter stay, however we ask you to be frugal with this finite resource and use the 2 slow combustion heaters. We want you to be comfortable during your stay and the lakehouse is a big house with vaulted family room ceilings so we also provide plenty of rugs thermo rugs for you to snuggle up with and we appreciate you being sensible with the wood.
The rustic metal door and bars that feature in the northern courtyard of the house are believed to be from the Old Goulburn jail and on the southern side you will find a wood fired pizza oven which we believe was resurrected from an old bakery in Newtown.

The Grounds
Depending on what time of year you are coming, the Lakehouse’ stunning diverse flora will delight you with a spectacular vibrance of the flowering blossom season, the rich warm colours of autumn, summer greens or the winter deciduous shedding. Mature natives on a number of points create features, privacy and protect you from the western sun so you can enjoy an afternoon drink on the balcony and look down at the lake. Around the property you will see mature elms, river gums, ash trees, oaks, “ Bruce” the blue spruce, liquid ambers, Manchurian pears, Rhododendron, weeping mulberry, lipstick maples, Camellia, liquid amber, flowering dogwoods, magnolias, Japanese maples, olives, crab apples, weeping cherry, cherry blossom and chestnut trees. The property also has a range of citrus trees. Orange, lemon, lime, lemonade, mandarin and grapefruit. They mature at different times in the year, so feel free to pick some to enjoy during your stay, but please be mindful of leaving plenty for others. The property also has apple and plum trees in the western paddocks. If you are there at the right time try an apple or a plum. The general rule of thumb is the fruit is ripe the day before the birds eat it!
Undulating lawns roll you down from the house to the vine-covered lake pergola. The lake is fed by a natural spring which helps maintain its levels in periods of drought and if you are staying in the heat of summer it’s a great way to cool off.
Please note that there is no safety equipment around the lake, if you are around , on or in the lake it is at your own risk.
On the high side of the property enjoy a game of tennis on the all-weather tennis court or have a family game of basketball with the hoop set up.
In the cooler months toast yourself some s'mores at the outdoor firepit. There's plenty of room with the old railway sleepers set on local sandstone blocks, so get out the guitar and have a singalong.
