About killcare heights and surrounding areas
Killcare Heights is a south-eastern suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia on the Bouddi Peninsula. It is part of the Central Coast Council local government area and was named after Allan MacMaster who was one of the first land owners in this area in 1855 after coming to Australia in 1839 from Scotland. Locals often describe it as having a 'village feel' and strong sense of community.
The beach is beautiful and the village is occupied by holiday and residential houses mainly, so you won't find tourist facilities apart from a couple of cafes. It's an ideal place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city or escape from the crowded beaches nearby. The name 'Killcare' originates from the phrase 'killing one's cares'. The Killcare area is a fun playground for outdoorsy people. It's surrounded by gorgeous beaches, Brisbane Water and Bouddi National Park.
THINGS TO SEE AND DO
-
Killcare Beach is a 1.6-km stretch of sand. It offers spectacular views of the Tasman Sea and Sydney's Northern Beaches.
It's undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches on the Central Coast.
The beach is popular with families in summer. There are excellent facilities, and lifeguards patrol the beach during the warmer months. There's also a fun rockpool at the beach's western end for little ones.
You'll find a food kiosk, restaurant, toilets and a water refill station. The food kiosk serves delicious fish and chips and coffee.
There's surfing too, but the ocean can be treacherous. So, the waves here suit the more experienced surfers.
To get to Killcare Beach, drive to the end of Beach Drive. There's free parking at the surf life saving club.
-
A secluded cove in Bouddi National Park, Little Beach is a relaxing spot to chill in the afternoon and have a picnic. Little Beach is also a campground with barbeque facilities and non-flush toilets. You can get to Little Beach via two walking tracks: The Coastal Walk and Little Beach trail. The Coastal Walk starts from the end of Macmaster Parade in Macmasters Beach. It's 1.7 km from here to Little Beach and it takes about 30 minutes. The Little Beach trail starts from Grahame Drive in Macmasters Beach. It's the quickest way to Little Beach – a 750-metre stroll along a fire trail.
-
If you prefer swimming in calm water, head to Putty Beach on the eastern side. It's a well-known family beach. There's no lifeguard patrol but the ocean is sheltered. Bring inflatables for kids.
Putty Beach is part of Bouddi National Park, so it's untouched.
There are toilets and a picnic ground behind the beach.
The Coastal Walk starts here if you'd like a short walk with stunning ocean views.
To get to Putty Beach, drive to the end of Putty Beach Drive. Parking is $8 (national park fees).
-
Bouddi Coastal Walk is an epic 8-kilometre hike from here to Putty Beach. Take in the incredible ocean views along the way, and you can swim at Maitland Bay, a beautiful hidden beach. The walk is easy for the most part but is strenuous in one section because you have to walk up and down hills. To access the walk from the beach, follow Marine Parade and climb the stairs between houses 85 and 87. follow the path and turn left onto Macmaster Parade – the track begins at the end of the road.

Needless to say, it makes for a peaceful, relaxing getaway. If you need to unwind with fine food and wine, it's the place to stay.
Also, Bells at Killcare is beside Bouddi National Park. So it's close to superb bushwalking tracks.
They offer fine dining onsite. The Wild flower Bar & Dining serves food with a strong focus on Mediterranean flavours.

Maitland Bay is a gorgeous beach hidden in Bouddi National Park.
You can only access this beach via a bushwalk – there’s no road access. A few trails lead to Maitland Bay.
The Maitland Bay track is the quickest way to Maitland Bay. The path is steep but well-maintained, with plenty of stone steps.
Enjoy one of the locals' favourite walks!
The Maitland Bay track starts from the information centre on The Scenic Rd.
You can also get to Maitland Bay from Putty Beach via the Coastal Walk. Or from Mount Bouddi Picnic Area via the Mount Bouddi walking track. Well worth doing as well.

RESTAURANTS & CAFES
The Lucky Bee
40/189 Ocean View Rd, Ettalong Beach NSW 2257
Aussie restaurateurs Rupert Noffs and Matty Bennett were the toast of New York City. They've transplanted their Lucky Bee restaurant from Manhattan's lower east side to the Central Coast.
Serving everyone from Chris Rock to Salman Rushdie in New York, Noffs says they'd tired of big city living after seven years and chose the Central Coast because they love the area and its proximity to family. Bennett, who spent six years at Longrain before heading stateside, worked in the kitchen at The Fat Radish before opening The Lucky Bee.
The duo believe they've hit an eating precinct on the rise. The Aussie restaurateurs have transplanted their restaurant from the Big Apple to the NSW Central Coast, taking their restaurant concept to the Coast's newest foodie precinct, Ettalong Beach.
